Design Engineering Manager (Aerospace)

Location: Onsite in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States

Salary: $115,000–$170,000 annually

What you will do

• Plan, organize, and direct design activities for new products and provide technical support for existing products.
• Build and lead a multidisciplinary engineering team through requirements analysis, proposals, prototyping, design finalization, and validation and verification.
• Support manufacturing teams in achieving operational readiness and drive continuous improvement of products and processes.
• Manage multiple projects against demanding schedules, cost targets, and technical requirements.
• Present concepts, data, and recommendations to leadership and customers during formal design reviews.
• Lead hiring, performance appraisal, mentoring, and professional development for engineering staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a closely related field.
• At least 7 years of relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• At least 3 years of leadership experience; direct supervision experience is preferred.
• Excellent project management skills, including risk mitigation, budget control, and schedule tracking.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present to senior leaders and customers.
• Ability to travel internationally and domestically to customer sites for sales and technical support.

Nice to have

• Experience with motion control systems.
• Direct supervision experience.
