TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer - Nuclear (SolidWorks/mechanical design): Producing concept, 3D scheme, and detailed manufacturing designs for nuclear engineering projects with an accent on design substantiation, technical compliance, and project delivery. Focus on developing robust mechanical solutions, performing engineering calculations, supporting tenders, and coordinating work packages across UK nuclear sites and France.

Location: Bristol, United Kingdom, with regular travel to nuclear sites across the UK and travel to France

What you will do

  • Own mechanical engineering activities from concept through detailed design, manufacture, and project delivery.
  • Develop 3D scheme designs, detailed manufacturing drawings, and technical documentation using SolidWorks.
  • Produce engineering calculations and design substantiation, and review designs for technical compliance and quality.
  • Manage technical delivery of allocated projects, coordinate engineering activities, and support assigned engineers.
  • Provide technical input for bids, interpret customer specifications, prepare technical responses, and develop engineering estimates.
  • Support engineering capability development, mentoring programmes, continuous improvement, and compliance in a highly regulated environment.

Requirements

  • 5–9 years of professional experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Fluent French and English.
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks for 3D design and detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Experience producing engineering calculations, design substantiation, and technical design reviews.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and translate requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience in nuclear, defence, aerospace, energy, or another highly regulated sector.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, design verification, and technical governance.
  • Experience with technical tenders, commercial proposals, mentoring, or leadership.
  • Knowledge of French nuclear regulatory boards and regulations.
