Mechanical Staff Engineer (Electrical Power Systems) (Industrial Mechanical Design): Leading the development of mechanical solutions for monitoring, protection, recording, and analytics products used in electrical power networks with an accent on complex product design, thermal management, manufacturability, reliability, and compliance. Focus on performing structural and environmental analysis, leading technical investigations, supporting product qualification and production launch, and mentoring engineers across multidisciplinary teams.
Location: Glasgow, Lanarkshire, United Kingdom; onsite/hybrid

What you will do
- Lead the mechanical design and development of embedded monitoring, sensing, recording, and industrial instrumentation products.
- Translate product and system requirements into robust enclosures, assemblies, thermal management solutions, mounting systems, and industrial packaging.
- Perform thermal, structural, vibration, shock, environmental, and tolerance analyses to ensure product robustness.
- Lead technical investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and failure analysis across development, manufacturing, and field issues.
- Support prototyping, testing, environmental qualification, production launch, validation, supplier engagement, and component qualification.
- Mentor engineers, lead technical design reviews, and promote standards, governance, and engineering excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience developing industrial, electronic, or embedded hardware products from concept through production and lifecycle support.
- Experience designing complex mechanical systems, enclosures, assemblies, and industrial products.
- Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, environmental protection, thermal management, and reliability engineering.
- Experience with sheet metal, machined components, castings, injection mouldings, seals, gaskets, fasteners, and assembly design.
- Strong communication, collaboration, technical leadership, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills without direct line management responsibility.
Nice to have
- Experience in electrical utilities, industrial automation, energy, transportation, or critical infrastructure.
- Knowledge of vibration, shock, ingress protection, temperature, humidity, corrosion, EMC, IEC, IEEE, UL, and CE requirements.
- Expertise with 3D CAD systems such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Inventor.
- Experience with FEA, CFD, tolerance modelling, PLM, change control, configuration management, and engineering release processes.
- Experience supporting global supply chains, supplier development, and product lifecycle management.
