Senior Systems Engineer (Amazon Web Services (AWS) Data Engineer)

Location: 100% U.S.-based remote position; candidates from California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington will not be considered

What you will do

• Lead the modernization of a healthcare data platform and migrate an MSSQL XML object store to a cloud-native AWS architecture.
• Evaluate AWS data storage and query services such as S3, Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, and OpenSearch.
• Design reporting and SQL query layers that enable business stakeholders and non-technical users to work with healthcare data.
• Define migration strategies, storage formats, partitioning, schemas, catalogs, metadata, and data models for scalable query performance.
• Optimize AWS query performance and costs while collaborating with business analysts and a C#/.NET engineer on EDI data flows.
• Implement CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code using AWS-native tools, CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform, and document architecture decisions and data flows.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required; candidates must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI) and pass a government security investigation.
• 8+ years of software or data engineering experience with a strong AWS focus and experience delivering production cloud data platform migrations.
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services including S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Strong SQL skills, including relational query layers over XML or JSON, plus experience parsing, querying, and transforming XML at scale.
• Experience with AWS analytics and reporting, Git/GitHub, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Agile methodologies, Jira, and technical documentation.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• AWS certifications.
• Experience with EDI X.12 medical claims, HL7, FHIR, healthcare payer or PBM systems, clearinghouses, or pharmacy operations.
• Knowledge of HIPAA requirements, C#/.NET integration services, or Entity Framework migration and deprecation projects.
