Senior Database Engineer (AWS)

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; work model: in-office / hybrid. U.S. citizenship is required for public-sector efforts, and active DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain it is required.

Base salary: $100,000–$200,000 USD annually, plus potential clearance differential and discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Design logical and physical data models and scalable database architectures for demanding government programs.
• Analyze legacy schemas, identify migration risks, and migrate data to modern cloud-based database environments.
• Convert stored procedures, triggers, views, functions, and hardcoded SQL for compatibility with target database engines.
• Build ETL functions to clean, transform, and transport legacy data.
• Configure and monitor enterprise database clusters, tune database objects, and improve availability and performance.
• Integrate database code and ETL objects into CI/CD and source-control workflows, including automated test-data generation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
• At least 3 years of professional data-engineering experience designing and implementing tables, views, stored procedures, and functions.
• Strong expertise in relational and NoSQL databases, including SQL, MQL, and CQL.
• Hands-on experience with technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, AWS, Snowflake, and Databricks.
• U.S. citizenship and active DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain it.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% annually for customer engagements.

Nice to have

• AWS Database Specialty, AWS Solutions Architect, CompTIA Security+, Oracle, or Microsoft certifications.
• Experience migrating complex schemas between database engines.
• Familiarity with Python, Java, C#, XML, JSON, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, and RHEL8.
