Senior Director, Engineering (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States

Salary: $250,000–$270,000 annually, depending on location, experience, and skills

What you will do

• Partner with the CTO and engineering leaders to shape engineering strategy and technical direction.
• Lead, develop, retain, and hire engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
• Improve planning, delivery, quality, reliability, and engineering health across products, platforms, and workflows.
• Work with Product, Design, Newsroom, and business leaders to turn priorities into technical plans and align engineering capacity.
• Guide architecture, platform, reliability, operating standards, and cross-team technical tradeoffs.
• Lead vendor evaluation and selection for engineering tools, platforms, and services.

Requirements

• Experience leading and developing engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
• Experience helping teams use AI to improve software development, testing, operations, and product experimentation.
• Ability to explain technical details to executives and nontechnical partners while engaging deeply with engineers on architecture.
• Strong judgment in unfamiliar technical areas, platform investments, system simplification, and short-term tradeoffs.
• Experience with high-traffic digital products and their supporting platforms is preferred.
• Strong vision for how AI and technology will change engineering practices, product development, platforms, and internal workflows.
