Engineering Manager (AI)

What you will do

• Own the health, output, delivery, and trajectory of an engineering pod of approximately 6–8 engineers.
• Establish the pod’s operating cadence, including planning, retrospectives, follow-through, and early risk identification.
• Manage direct reports through weekly 1:1s, continuous feedback, performance reviews, coaching, growth planning, and performance improvement plans.
• Partner with the Product Manager on prioritization and requirements, and represent engineering tradeoffs to non-engineering stakeholders.
• Partner with the Technical Lead on architecture, technical quality, technical debt, and risk while maintaining enough technical depth to evaluate plans.
• Own engineering onboarding, hiring, succession planning, cross-pod dependencies, and communication with the Head of Engineering.

Requirements

• Experience directly managing engineers, ideally five or more, including improving performance and managing sustained performance gaps.
• A credible engineering background with production software experience and the ability to review pull requests and evaluate design documents and estimates.
• A track record of improving delivery predictability and team execution.
• Fluency with modern AI product development, including evaluations, experiment design, dataset curation, and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Strong product partnership, written communication, direct feedback, hiring, onboarding, operational reliability, incident response, and security instincts.
• Must be located in the United States for this remote role.
