Boiler Plant Operator

Location: Tufts Medical Center - Corporate Location

Pay range: $34.79–$43.49 per hour based on full-time equivalent.

What you will do

• Operate, monitor, inspect, and maintain high-pressure steam boilers, chillers, compressors, pumps, motors, HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and related controls.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on facility equipment, including generators, emergency lights, air conditioning systems, ice machines, fans, and air units.
• Respond to emergencies involving loss of power, steam, water, heat, ice, or snow and operate appropriate emergency equipment.
• Diagnose physical plant issues such as outages, overheating, broken belts, loud noises, hot bearings, and jammed controls.
• Record operating data in logs, prepare deficiency reports, and notify authorized personnel about major failures or specialized repair needs.
• Complete required training and collaborate with facilities colleagues to maintain patient comfort and safety.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Second class fireman license or two years of plant operations experience.
• Proficient communication, reading, and writing in English.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to follow directions, multitask, meet deadlines, and resolve routine to complex problems.
• Ability to stand or walk for up to eight hours, climb stairs and ladders, occasionally lift heavy objects, and wear required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to work under pressure, make independent decisions, and maintain attention to detail.
