TL;DR
Project Manager and Project Lead Engineer (Key) (Aerospace): Managing spaceflight instruments, experimental payloads, satellite systems, and sounding rocket programs from concept formulation through final closeout with an accent on technical coordination, space vehicle integration, and launch readiness. Focus on developing interface, ground, flight operation, and safety requirements, coordinating Government, NASA, academic, and industry stakeholders, and supporting prototype space-qualified payload fabrication.

Location: Onsite in the Washington, DC area at the Naval Research Laboratory

Salary: $107,000–$143,000 per year, depending on experience and location, plus potential annual performance bonus and equity or incentive compensation.

What you will do

  • Plan, direct, and manage programs involving spaceflight instruments, experimental payloads, satellites, and sounding rocket systems.
  • Coordinate spaceflight instrument and satellite systems from concept formulation through final closeout.
  • Coordinate technical activities among Government, NASA, co-contractors, academic institutions, and industry personnel.
  • Support space vehicle integration and develop interface control, ground, flight operation, and safety requirements.
  • Interface with launch integration personnel, safety managers, and technical lead engineers to develop launch range documentation.
  • Support the fabrication and manufacture of prototype and limited-production space-qualified instruments and payloads.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Business, or an equivalent field.
  • 8–10 years of relevant experience in program management, spaceflight instruments, payloads, satellite systems, or sounding rocket systems.
  • Experience with ITAR information exchange controls and related defense trade regulations.
  • Experience with space vehicle integration guidelines, requirements, safety standards, and launch operations.
  • Proficiency with word processing, project management, scheduling, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Final DoD-granted SECRET security clearance required.
