TL;DR
Lead Project Engineer (Spacecraft Avionics): Leading technical execution for spacecraft avionics packages from requirements and system architecture through validation, integration, and delivery with an accent on requirements traceability, cross-functional coordination, and board- and system-level debugging. Focus on designing complex electronics systems, executing environmental and EMI/EMC testing, and solving integration issues across hardware, FPGA, software, test, suppliers, and manufacturing.

Location: Onsite in Phoenix, AZ, United States

Salary: $80,000–$130,000 annually

What you will do

  • Lead technical execution for assigned spacecraft avionics projects from requirements through delivery and integration.
  • Translate program requirements into system and subsystem architectures.
  • Manage requirements, traceability, and verification matrices.
  • Coordinate hardware, firmware/FPGA, software, test, supplier, and manufacturing activities.
  • Plan and support environmental, functional, EMI/EMC, integration, validation, and verification testing.
  • Troubleshoot board-level and system-level issues while ensuring engineering outputs meet schedule and quality targets.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant engineering experience in space, avionics, or complex electronics systems.
  • Familiarity with requirements management, circuit board design and debugging, spacecraft electronics, FPGA design, complex system design, or avionics testing.
  • Experience creating or maintaining requirements traceability and verification artifacts.
  • Strong hands-on problem-solving and test/debug skills at board or system level.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in Phoenix, AZ; the role involves access to U.S. export-controlled information.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of space or avionics standards and interfaces such as SpaceWire, Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, and RS-422/TTL.
  • Experience with environmental qualification testing, including vibration, thermal/vacuum, and shock.
  • Experience with hardware bring-up, lab automation, and test-script development.
  • Knowledge of FPGA toolflows, schematic capture, or PCB layout review.
