Lead Engineer / Architect - Payments & AI

What you will do

• Design and build AI agents that initiate, process, and complete end-to-end payment transactions across multiple markets.
• Translate payment requirements and transaction lifecycles into agent workflows, business rules, APIs, and system integrations.
• Define architecture for agent orchestration, transaction state management, tool and API invocation, retries, exception handling, and recovery.
• Integrate AI agents with payment platforms, gateways, transaction processing systems, APIs, and enterprise services.
• Implement security, authorization, auditability, observability, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop controls for agent-driven payment actions.
• Lead testing, design and code reviews, technical delivery, and engineering mentorship through successful transaction execution.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including architecture and technical leadership.
• Strong hands-on Python development experience and experience building LLM/GenAI applications and AI agents.
• Strong understanding of payments, transaction processing, payment lifecycles, payment APIs, gateways, and transaction platforms.
• Experience with REST APIs, microservices, distributed systems, cloud platforms, enterprise integrations, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with agent orchestration, tool or function calling, structured outputs, LLM integration, AI guardrails, evaluation, and observability.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, and the ability to distinguish AI-driven decisioning from deterministic payment and business logic.

Nice to have

• Experience across multiple payment markets or regional payment ecosystems.
• Knowledge of payment authorization, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, fraud and risk, disputes, or exception management.
• Experience with Kafka or other event-streaming technologies.
• Experience designing configurable architectures for market-specific payment variations.
• Experience with LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI, or equivalent agent frameworks.
