Senior Backend Engineer II (AI)

What you will do

• Design and implement highly scalable, highly available backend services with monitoring and alerting.
• Ramp up in large, unfamiliar codebases, assess blast radius, de-risk changes, and ship reliable software.
• Use AI throughout development to generate and pressure-test approaches while verifying output quality.
• Own the full software lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, solution design, development, quality assurance, deployment, and maintenance.
• Partner with product managers and cross-functional teams to translate product needs into technical decisions and challenge specifications when needed.
• Write design documentation, mentor engineers, improve performance, and introduce valuable technologies and practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience in backend development, including 3–4 years in senior positions.
• Experience building large-scale distributed web applications with observability, monitoring, and alerting.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
• Experience with database modeling using SQL or NoSQL and designing RESTful services.
• Fluency with AI development tools and the judgment to verify, pressure-test, and take ownership of AI-assisted code.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, collaboration, planning, and product judgment skills.

Nice to have

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar field.
• Experience with GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Mongo, Redis, Ruby on Rails, microservices, or machine learning.
