GNC Engineer (Spacecraft)

Location: Glasgow, United Kingdom; hybrid work with a minimum of three days per week in the office

What you will do

• Design, evaluate, select, qualify, and implement spacecraft flight sensors, including magnetometers, sun sensors, inertial measurement devices, Earth sensors, and star trackers.
• Design, model, qualify, and integrate flight actuators such as magnetic torque elements, reaction wheels, and propulsion systems.
• Develop and maintain GNC subcomponent simulation models in a six-degree-of-freedom simulation environment.
• Own GNC avionics peripherals and support troubleshooting, design updates, reliability improvements, and performance enhancements.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems engineers to integrate avionics solutions into spacecraft platforms.
• Develop qualification and acceptance processes and work hands-on in laboratory and manufacturing environments.

Requirements

• Experience with spacecraft flight sensors for attitude determination and estimation.
• Experience with actuators, including sizing, modelling, design, and integration.
• Strong foundation in spacecraft attitude dynamics and control algorithms, including sensor ingestion and actuator command calculation.
• Hands-on hardware experience and familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop simulation.
• Software development experience with C or Python and familiarity with the Linux development environment.
• Experience working with external engineering contractors.

Nice to have

• Flight software or embedded C/C++ development experience.
• Experience designing or implementing Kalman filters and feedback control for attitude estimation.
• Experience with spacecraft design, assembly, integration, testing, operations, or maintenance.
• Experience resolving system anomalies and creating integration and test campaigns for attitude determination and control systems.
