Mission Concept Engineer (Space)

Location: Hybrid, based in one of the following locations: Harwell, UK; Athens, Greece; Barcelona, Spain; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Mallorca, Spain; Porto, Portugal; or Tenerife, Spain. Candidates must have the legal right to work in their chosen location.

Provides end-to-end satellite mission services, from design and manufacturing to launch and operations, using shared satellite infrastructure to deliver Earth observation, IoT connectivity, and secure communications.

What you will do

• Define and develop mission concepts for commercial and institutional opportunities across space, ground, and launch segments.
• Perform orbital, power, delta-V, coverage, and link budget analyses, including technical trade-offs and feasibility assessments.
• Prepare and contribute to technically accurate, coherent, and customer-focused proposals and bids.
• Collaborate with systems engineering, project management, supply chain teams, customers, suppliers, and partners to validate assumptions and ensure deliverability.
• Develop and maintain models, tools, and analytical frameworks for cost estimation, risk assessment, and performance modelling.
• Analyse technical and market intelligence and improve internal templates, tools, and mission analysis methods.

Requirements

• Sound understanding of space mission design, including orbit mechanics, payload definition, and system trade-offs.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills for power, delta-V, coverage, and link budget calculations.
• Experience with modelling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, Python, or STK.
• Familiarity with systems engineering processes and cross-segment mission integration.
• Knowledge of proposal development, technical writing, and documentation standards, with the ability to structure complex ideas clearly.
• Legal right to work in the selected employment location.

• Knowledge of remote sensing, telecommunications, or in-orbit services missions.
