Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

Location: Remote within the United States; Atlanta is preferred. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Salary: $175,000–$185,000 annually

What you will do

• Design and build scalable, reliable backend services primarily with Ruby on Rails and, where appropriate, Go.
• Extract well-scoped capabilities from mature Rails systems and define service boundaries, interfaces, and migration paths.
• Build reliable data flows between backend services and BigQuery or Snowflake without affecting member-facing reliability or latency.
• Lead complex initiatives from technical design through implementation, rollout, monitoring, and iteration.
• Partner with Product, Design, QA, Data, Platform, and engineering teams to coordinate delivery and resolve dependencies.
• Improve performance, observability, deployment practices, operational ownership, and production reliability while participating in on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant production Ruby on Rails development.
• Expert Ruby on Rails and strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Experience with RESTful API design, serialization, versioning, Sidekiq or similar background processing, and asynchronous workflows.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, logging, metrics, and tracing.
• Working knowledge of Go and experience delivering complex, multi-component backend features at scale.
• U.S. work authorization is required; employment visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience evolving monoliths toward well-defined services and designing graph-shaped data models or fan-out strategies.
• Experience building social features such as feeds, follows, live chat, reactions, activity streams, recommendations, or stat-driven profiles.
• Experience with feature flags, ranking experiments, growth loops, and AI-assisted development tools.
