Staff - Advanced Technical Support Engineer - Switching (EX/QFX)

Location: United States; onsite work at an HPE office is expected, with attendance at the role location at least 2 days per week. The role also includes occasional travel, onsite troubleshooting, and some weekend or rotation coverage.

Salary: USD 105,500–243,000 annually in Texas, or USD 120,000–243,000 annually in California. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and complex network issues across EX-series and QFX-series switching products.
• Reproduce customer environments and network problems in the lab, document findings, and coordinate fixes with engineering.
• Manage critical customer accounts, escalation requests, and issues from tier 1 and tier 2 support teams worldwide.
• Serve as a technical escalation point and work directly with engineering, customers, vendors, and external partners.
• Mentor support engineers and deliver technical and process training on products and service offerings.
• Create customer-facing documentation, FAQs, knowledge-base articles, and complete issue-tracking records.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience supporting, designing, and implementing large IP networks.
• Strong knowledge of IP packet flow, OSI layers, Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies, routing protocols, and VPN technologies.
• Experience with BGP, OSPF, ISIS, RIP, EVPN, VxLAN, MPLS, VPLS, L2/L3 VPN, multicast, and traffic engineering.
• Experience with traffic-generation tools such as Spirent and IXIA, plus Linux and Perl/Unix scripting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, customer-handling, troubleshooting, mentoring, and training skills.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; relevant work experience may substitute for a degree.

Nice to have

• Switching and routing certifications such as JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE, CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE.
• Experience with AI/ML.
