Head of Forward Deployed Engineering (AI)

Location: Fully remote; being based in Los Angeles is a strong plus, not a requirement

Annual compensation: $175,000–$225,000 USD, based on experience and qualifications

What you will do

• Lead six engineers by setting assignments, sequencing work, managing capacity, coaching, and clarifying ownership.
• Build alongside the team and own architecture, technical standards, code reviews, release readiness, and production quality.
• Work directly with customers to identify problems, test assumptions, define success metrics, and use adoption data to guide product decisions.
• Drive product rollout, activation, repeat use, recovery, and measurable customer engagement.
• Govern security, data access, AI evaluations, token attribution, budgets, monitoring, retries, and recovery processes.
• Develop reusable components and delivery playbooks while connecting projects to customer value and company objectives.

Requirements

• Comparable experience managing engineers while remaining technically hands-on and actively building.
• Production systems shipped and operated with measurable customer adoption or business outcomes.
• Daily AI-assisted engineering and management workflows, including creating, testing, reviewing, and maintaining AI-written code.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, customer development, product judgment, and communication skills.
• Evidence of increasing responsibility, sustained results, and sound decisions to focus, narrow, or stop work.
