Heavy Equipment Technician

What you will do

• Diagnose and repair heavy equipment, compact equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel and gasoline vehicles, including compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders.
• Service engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, body components, hydraulic systems, brakes, electrical systems, suspension, wheels, tires, and undercarriages.
• Interpret equipment condition reports, repair orders, oil-sampling results, onboard computer data, and fleet-management information.
• Document repairs, parts usage, labor time, fuel and oil consumption, and daily equipment data.
• Follow safety procedures and perform gas or diesel engine overhauls.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience as a heavy equipment technician.
• Advanced knowledge of air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, suspension, steering, and wheel-end components.
• Mechanical trade school certificate or degree.
• Electrical diagnostics certificate and applicable ASE certifications.
• Working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems and welding or fabrication skills.
• At least 1 year of experience applying OSHA HazCom, Lockout/Tagout, and Fire Protection regulations.
