Fleet Mechanic (Heavy Equipment)

Location: Macon, Georgia / Atlanta, Georgia, with regular travel to field locations and job sites

Salary: $36 per hour; final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.

What you will do

• Maintain, inspect, diagnose, and repair utility fleet vehicles and heavy equipment, including bucket trucks, digger derricks, material handlers, commercial vehicles, trailers, excavators, skid steers, pullers, and tensioners.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, steering, suspension, drivelines, PTOs, outriggers, and emissions aftertreatment systems.
• Use OEM diagnostic software, scan tools, digital multimeters, hydraulic test equipment, and other tools to identify equipment failures.
• Perform independent field repairs, test equipment after service, and determine whether equipment can safely return to service.
• Respond to breakdowns, storm operations, outages, emergency assignments, and unscheduled repair needs, including travel to remote sites and overnight work when required.
• Document labor, repairs, parts, inspections, equipment status, photographs, and recommendations in the fleet management system while coordinating with Fleet, Operations, vendors, and manufacturers.

Requirements

• Five or more years of field-service or heavy-equipment repair experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, commercial vehicle electrical systems, air brakes, and DOT-regulated equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural problems and determine safe repair solutions.
• Vocational or technical training in diesel, automotive, heavy equipment, hydraulics, electrical systems, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience is considered.
• Must maintain DOT medical certification, an acceptable motor vehicle record, and eligibility to operate company vehicles.
• Must be available for overtime, shift work, weekends, holidays, storm response, emergency assignments, regular field travel, overnight travel, and extended travel.

Nice to have

• Class A CDL.
• Experience servicing utility fleet equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, or material handlers.
• Experience with OEM diagnostic software, Fleetio, Samsara, and electronic diagnostic tools.
