TL;DR
Turbomachinery Intern (Aerospace): Supporting the development and maturation of turbopump assemblies for LOX and fuel rocket engines with an accent on CAD and drawing updates, data review, and engineering analysis. Focus on applying fluid mechanics, heat transfer, turbomachinery, and design-for-manufacturing principles while collaborating on propulsion hardware development and testing.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; full-time onsite for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning May or June 2027

Salary: $28 USD per hour

What you will do

  • Support new development and design maturation of turbopump assemblies for LOX and fuel rocket engines.
  • Update CAD models and engineering drawings.
  • Review technical data and perform engineering analysis.
  • Work with propulsion engineers and mentors to solve practical engineering challenges.
  • Provide progress updates through regular meetings with mentors and supervisors.
  • Participate in technical talks and professional events with interns and employees.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program in aerospace, aeronautical, astronautical, thermal, or mechanical engineering, or physics, with at least one semester remaining after the internship.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • At least 3 months of applied engineering experience through an internship, laboratory work, or personal/team projects.
  • Available to work full-time onsite for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks beginning May or June 2027.
  • U.S. office roles are subject to ITAR requirements, including eligibility based on U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylum status, or applicable U.S. government authorizations.

Nice to have

  • GPA of 3.5 or above and at least 6 months of applied engineering experience.
  • CAD/CAM experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX, plus geometric dimensioning and tolerancing experience.
  • Experience with ANSYS, MATLAB, Python, or SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, turbomachinery, aerodynamics, or compressible flow.
  • Hands-on hardware experience and a basic understanding of design for manufacturing.
