Turbomachinery Intern Spring 2027

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; full-time, on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning in January, February, or March 2027

What you will do

• Support new development and design maturation of turbopump assemblies.
• Update CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Conduct data reviews and engineering analysis activities.
• Collaborate with mentors, propulsion engineers, and other department employees.
• Apply engineering concepts to solve practical challenges involving LOX and fuel pumps.
• Attend mentoring sessions, technical talks, and professional development events.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate program in aerospace, aeronautical, astronautical, thermal, or mechanical engineering, or physics, with at least one semester remaining after the internship.
• Have a GPA of at least 3.0.
• Have at least 3 months of applied engineering experience through an internship, laboratory work, or personal/team projects.
• Be able to work full-time on-site for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning in January, February, or March 2027.
• For U.S. office roles, meet applicable ITAR eligibility or authorization requirements.

Nice to have

• GPA of 3.5 or above and at least 6 months of applied engineering experience.
• Experience with CAD/CAM tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Experience with ANSYS, MATLAB, Python, or SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, turbomachinery, aerodynamics, or compressible flow.
• Hands-on hardware experience and a basic understanding of design for manufacturing.
