TL;DR
Turbomachinery Engineer (Nuclear Reactors): Owning turbomachinery hardware from concept through development, qualification, and production with an accent on mechanical design, analysis, manufacturing, testing, and supplier coordination. Location: Los Angeles, United States. The role supports hardware development milestones, including occasional weekend or long-hour pushes.

Salary: $140,000–$220,000 per year, depending on leveling and experience. Senior level: $140,000–$185,000; Staff level: $155,000–$220,000.

hirify.global is a Series C startup developing mass-producible, inherently safe microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications.

What you will do

  • Own new and existing turbomachinery hardware from concept through development, qualification, and production.
  • Lead turbomachinery design, analysis, builds, testing, and technical execution for nuclear reactor hardware.
  • Translate system requirements into turbomachinery requirements, interfaces, and verification plans.
  • Coordinate aerodynamics, mechanical design, structures, rotordynamics, bearings, thermal analysis, manufacturing, and test activities.
  • Define development and test plans to retire the highest technical risks early.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing, test, and quality engineers to resolve issues, drive corrective actions, and deliver hardware on schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of full-cycle design engineering experience.
  • Experience releasing production-intent mechanical drawings and models, including GD&T and tolerance stack-up.
  • Working knowledge of turbomachinery and high-speed rotating machinery.
  • Ability to make tradeoffs involving performance, manufacturability, cost, risk, and schedule.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations under export regulations.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of turbomachinery design and ownership experience.
  • Experience as a responsible engineer, design owner, technical lead, or equivalent for complex hardware.
  • Experience working directly with suppliers and manufacturing teams to resolve design and production issues.
  • Proficiency with NX, ANSYS Mechanical, and CFX.
