TL;DR
District Planning Senior Specialist (Electrical Utility Distribution): Developing and managing electrical distribution plans, grid analyses, construction designs, and power flow models with an accent on system reliability, regulatory compliance, and customer design needs. Focus on assessing distribution capacity, preparing economic analyses and cost estimates, coordinating large projects through construction, and verifying field compliance across the SCE service territory.

Location: Monterey Park, California, US; hybrid work with required residence and work in California. The primary work location is the Montebello Service Center, with possible extended assignments at alternate locations and up to 20% travel throughout the SCE service territory.

Salary: $111,600–$167,400 annually

What you will do

  • Conduct long-term grid import planning, transmission interconnection assessments, power flow studies, and distribution system analyses.
  • Develop distribution facility plans, identify resources, prepare cost estimates, and define construction options.
  • Manage large design projects from inception through construction completion, coordinating scope, timing, budgets, policies, rates, and compliance.
  • Perform field inspections, verify approved plans, and assess distribution system capability and reliability performance.
  • Analyze outages, causes, trends, and duration while preparing short- and long-term system plans.
  • Coordinate with customers, internal teams, agencies, and other stakeholders; provide training and manage workload as needed.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of experience in electrical utility distribution, transmission, telecommunication design or construction, or engineering.
  • Valid Class C driver’s license.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
  • Experience with work scope, service methods, overhead and underground construction, work orders, construction plans, or project packages.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical or customer projects, collaborate across teams, and communicate effectively.
  • Employees are required to work and reside in California; the role is hybrid and includes field travel.

Nice to have

  • Experience with wind and pole loading applications, drafting systems, GIS, SPIDA Calc, Autodesk AUD, cGIS, SAP, or equivalent tools.
  • Project management, leadership, team lead, training, mentorship, or customer service resolution experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
