Field Engineering Designer I (Electrical Distribution)

Location: Norwalk, Connecticut, United States; hybrid schedule

Salary: $37.03 per hour starting at Step 1, with progression under the union contract.

hirify.global operates electric utility infrastructure and provides electric distribution services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

What you will do

• Design layouts for additions and changes to the electric distribution system using approved engineering standards and policies.
• Design, negotiate, and coordinate residential, commercial, and industrial electric service installations, including cost estimates, work orders, and service agreements.
• Prepare easement documents, private-property permits, contracts, and documentation for overhead and underground facility relocations.
• Design residential streetlighting and coordinate security lighting and unmetered service installations.
• Maintain customer relationships and communicate service installation requirements to customers, contractors, municipalities, and internal departments.
• Support emergency restoration efforts, including work beyond regular business hours and outside normal responsibilities or locations when assigned.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field; alternatively, a high school diploma or equivalent plus one year of formal technical training.
• Four to six years of related electrical distribution experience.
• Sound knowledge of electrical distribution systems, construction standards, and construction techniques.
• Ability to perform technical calculations, prepare work orders and cost estimates, and determine design, fee, easement, and permitting requirements.
• Strong negotiation, judgment, teamwork, customer service, communication, and safety awareness skills.
