Continuous Improvement Engineer Co-Op (Lean Manufacturing)

Location: Chaska, Minnesota, United States; full-time on-site co-op from January through June, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

What you will do

• Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, visual management, standard work, and workplace organization.
• Participate in and facilitate Kaizen events focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
• Conduct Gemba walks, observe manufacturing processes, identify improvement opportunities, and engage employees in problem solving.
• Support Total Daily Management through metric tracking, visual boards, daily accountability, and action planning.
• Lead and support projects involving scrap reduction, process capability, variance reduction, cost savings, Kanban, and material flow improvements.
• Analyze operational data, apply Six Sigma and root-cause analysis tools, measure results, and communicate recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled as a student and eligible to participate in a university co-op program.
• Expected graduation between December 2027 and May 2029.
• Available to work 40 hours per week from January through June.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret manufacturing and operational data.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

Nice to have

• Major or academic background in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering Management, Business Analytics, or a related technical discipline.
• Interest in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Operational Excellence, and manufacturing processes.
• Curiosity, initiative, and a hands-on approach to process improvement.
