Location: Warren, Michigan, United States. Hybrid role requiring attendance at the specified location at least three times per week. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do
- Design and lay out lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery cell components, including cathodes, anodes, separators, and electrolytes.
- Develop and optimize electrical, thermal, and mechanical cell performance requirements.
- Manage Pre-A and A sample development, testing, validation, and component analysis.
- Apply Design for Six Sigma, robust design, reliability, optimization, statistical, and process-control methods.
- Use empirical data, virtual simulations, finite element analysis, machine learning, and analytical tools to assess performance, cost, and design sensitivity.
- Coordinate cell-to-pack integration, requirements allocation, risk management, cost innovation, supplier collaboration, and cross-functional project delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, electrochemical, materials, or related engineering.
- At least 2 years of relevant engineering experience in product development, design release, project management, or supplier collaboration.
- Knowledge of lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery technologies, energy storage systems, vehicle electrification, and material characterization.
- Experience with requirements development, mechanical CAE tools, CAD manipulation, statistical tools, and process-control methods.
- Experience managing complex projects and cross-functional teams, preparing technical documents, and working independently with accountability.
- Must be able to work in the United States without current or future GM immigration sponsorship. Chemical handling, laboratory safety, and industrial workplace hazard awareness are required.
Nice to have
- Master’s or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Battery cell mechanical testing and validation experience.
- Proficiency with Matlab, Simulink, or Python.
- Knowledge of cell manufacturing, industrial chemical processing, automotive subsystems, electric vehicle standards, CFD, or FEA.
- Battery supply-base experience and cell quality, manufacturing, or product assurance planning skills.
