Director of Partnerships (AI)

Location: Remote or hybrid within the United States; travel is required at least twice per year for on-site events in Seattle, Washington.

Annual salary: $160,930–$210,000.

What you will do

• Develop and grow partnerships with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical technology, health technology, AI, philanthropic, and mission-aligned organizations.
• Identify scientific, technological, and market opportunities connected to Sage’s research, data, governance, technology, and AI capabilities.
• Lead scientific and technical discovery with prospective partners, translating their needs into focused solution concepts, analyses, prototypes, demonstrations, and proofs of concept.
• Define repeatable partnership offerings and lead strategic initiatives that strengthen Sage’s capabilities, visibility, and future funding prospects.
• Develop concept notes, proposals, presentations, scopes, budgets, and agreements while aligning internal priorities, resources, risks, and tradeoffs.
• Mentor colleagues and build a partnership team over time.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in biomedical, behavioral, public health, data science, engineering, or a related discipline; a PhD or equivalent scientific leadership and industry experience is strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of experience across biomedical science, data, technology, and external partnerships.
• Demonstrated success originating and advancing funded partnerships with life science, health technology, or AI organizations.
• Hands-on experience with health data and data-intensive technologies; AI/ML experience is preferred.
• Strong scientific communication, cross-functional relationship-building skills, commercial judgment, and an established industry network.
• Ability to work remotely or in a hybrid arrangement within the United States and travel to Seattle for on-site events at least twice per year.

Nice to have

• Experience with multimodal biomedical and health data, including clinical, observational, molecular, imaging, and patient-generated data.
• Familiarity with biomedical data governance, open science, FAIR principles, and responsible AI.
• Experience with data partnerships, platform licensing, strategic alliances, or other models beyond fee-for-service work.
• Experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code for data analysis, solution prototyping, or technical work.
