What you will do

  • Inspect rail tank cars, containers, placards, safety appliances, test dates, fittings, closures, and other equipment for defects and compliance.
  • Review packaging, marking, labeling, shipping procedures, documentation, weights, seal numbers, and shipment logs.
  • Plan periodic inspections of hazardous-material handling at rail loading areas and ensure track, gates, and terminal procedures are followed.
  • Assist with liquid product transfers, including piping, pumps, valves, hoses, flanges, vessel tie-up, and release operations.
  • Participate in investigations of material releases, accidents, and serious incidents.
  • Maintain a safe work area, use required personal protective equipment, report spills and unsafe conditions, and attend safety meetings and training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with federal regulations and standards for hazardous-material rail shipments, including containerization, loading, handling, documentation, and placarding.
  • Experience with rail operations, cargo transfers, or liquid handling in a terminal environment.
  • Working knowledge of EPA, FRA, DOT, and OSHA requirements; ability to complete HAZMAT, DOT, confined-space, and lockout/tagout training.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and ability to obtain a TWIC card.
  • English communication and reading skills are required; the role requires onsite work in Harvey, Louisiana.

Nice to have

  • Previous chemical, refining, terminal, pipeline operations, or tank farm experience.
  • OSHA certification.
