Senior Thermal Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Los Angeles, United States; in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office.

Salary: $150,000–$190,000 annual base salary, excluding additional benefits.

What you will do

• Own spacecraft thermal design and performance from concept through flight and on-orbit operations.
• Develop and maintain spacecraft-level thermal models using Ansys Thermal Desktop.
• Perform thermal analyses across mission environments and drive thermal control decisions.
• Plan and execute thermal subsystem reviews, including SRR, PDR, and CDR.
• Support thermal hardware integration, assembly, testing, and thermal vacuum testing.
• Correlate test and flight data with thermal models and collaborate with mechanical, systems, and avionics teams.

Requirements

• U.S. Person status is required because the role involves access to export-controlled data.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in thermal engineering or analysis.
• Experience with thermal modeling and analysis tools, heat transfer, and thermal engineering fundamentals.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with spacecraft or aerospace thermal systems.

Nice to have

• Proficiency with Ansys Thermal Desktop and experience designing spacecraft thermal control systems.
• Experience with thermal vacuum testing, instrumentation, data acquisition, and model correlation.
• Familiarity with spacecraft thermal margin standards and two-phase thermal control systems.
• Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
