TL;DR
Thermal Engineer (Space Systems) (Thermal Analysis/Thermal Desktop): Developing and executing geometry-based thermal models, thermal designs, and qualification tests for space-based optical and communication systems with an accent on thermo-physical and optical material properties, radiative interfaces, and thermal management. Focus on steady-state and transient analysis, system-level trade studies, selecting thermal control hardware, and validating prototype hardware across demanding mission environments.

Location: Lexington, Massachusetts; must live within 100 miles of Lexington and be a US citizen. Work schedule is four days onsite and one day remote. Non-local candidates must fully relocate at the start of the position.

Company

hirify.global provides technical services and engineering solutions for defense research and national security programs.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute geometry-based thermal models using representative heat loads, thermo-physical and optical material properties, and mechanical, thermal, and radiative interfaces.
  • Perform steady-state and transient thermal analyses to verify safe operating temperatures and mission requirements.
  • Contribute thermal expertise to system-level trade studies, architecture decisions, and design reviews.
  • Design, analyze, and test thermal systems and components for space-qualified optical, communication, electronic, and structural hardware.
  • Select and procure thermal control hardware and plan developmental, qualification, and acceptance testing.
  • Support prototype hardware development across the full program life cycle, with occasional domestic travel to meetings and field sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least five years of thermal analysis, thermal engineering, Thermal Desktop, and SolidWorks experience.
  • Expertise with Thermal Desktop and CAD software, especially SolidWorks.

  • Must live within 100 miles of Lexington, Massachusetts or fully relocate at the start of the position.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics, Ansys, or COMSOL.
  • Thermal vacuum test design and execution.
  • Thermal engineering for space and airborne platforms, including orbital analysis and space-environment modeling.
  • Experience with passive and active thermal control techniques such as heat pipes, multilayer insulation, thermal coatings, and surface treatments.

Culture & Benefits

  • Fast-paced, customer-focused, technically innovative engineering environment.
  • Paid time off, 10 paid holidays, floating holidays, and volunteer leave.
  • One week of paid maternity or paternity leave after one year of full-time employment.
  • Up to $5,000 annually in tuition reimbursement for eligible full-time employees after six months.
  • 401(k) with company matching and immediate vesting.
  • Reimbursement for eligible remote-work internet and phone expenses, plus a device reimbursement program.

Hiring process
