Mechanical Tooling Engineer (Nuclear)

Salary: $112,000 – $185,000

What you will do

• Own the design, development, and implementation of tooling and ground support equipment for the R1 microreactor lifecycle.
• Translate manufacturing and deployment needs into practical engineering solutions through direct collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings for fixtures, lifting devices, and transportation equipment.
• Perform mechanical design and structural analysis to ensure safety and stability under load.
• Work hands-on with machinists, welders, and technicians to fabricate, troubleshoot, and commission tooling on the factory floor.
• Develop operating instructions and support training for technicians and operators.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering.
• 3+ years of experience designing mechanical hardware, tooling, or ground support equipment.
• Strong 3D CAD skills and experience creating production-quality engineering drawings.
• Understanding of mechanical design fundamentals including tolerance stack-ups, material selection, and design for manufacturing.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or otherwise eligible under U.S. export regulations (ITAR).
• Ability to support tooling installation and operation in factory and field environments.

Nice to have

• Proficiency with Siemens NX.
• Experience designing tooling for large, heavy, or geometrically sensitive hardware.
• Background in highly regulated industries such as nuclear, aerospace, or defense.
• Experience with structural calculations or finite element analysis.
