Senior Principal Supply Chain Engineer (HDD)

Location: San Jose, California, onsite at the San Jose Great Oaks Headquarters. Domestic and international travel may be required.

Salary: $140,300–$187,000 per year.

What you will do

• Partner with strategic suppliers to evaluate, pilot, and scale technologies, processes, and materials that improve cost, quality, performance, and time-to-market.
• Serve as the technical interface between suppliers and engineering, manufacturing, quality, procurement, finance, and program management teams.
• Drive total cost of ownership reduction through design-for-manufacturability, process optimization, automation, yield improvement, and lifecycle cost analysis.
• Assess supplier capacity, scalability, technical readiness, operational maturity, equipment readiness, workforce skills, and digitalization.
• Improve supplier quality and resilience through process capability improvements, root cause analysis, corrective action, dual sourcing, risk mitigation, and recovery planning.
• Support sustainability initiatives covering environmental impact, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and responsible sourcing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Materials Science, Electronics, Physics, Chemical, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related technical field.
• Extensive experience in supply chain engineering, manufacturing engineering, supplier development, or a related field.
• Direct experience working with suppliers on technical, operational, or cost-reduction initiatives.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a related technical field and/or an MBA.
• Experience introducing new manufacturing technologies or processes into production.
• Background in cost modeling, should-cost analysis, or value engineering.
