Software Quality Engineering Specialist (Mainframe/Data Testing)

Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work with flexibility to work from the office and virtually

Salary: CAD 65,000–105,000 per year, plus eligible bonus programs

What you will do

• Design and implement quality engineering strategies from complex business requirements.
• Create and execute detailed manual and automated test cases for functional, non-functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end scenarios.
• Test mainframe, front-end, reporting, and business applications, including financial-data calculations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams on shift-left testing, in-sprint testing, and automation reuse.
• Document software defects with clear reproduction steps and expected and actual results.
• Communicate quality, resource, and project risks while helping resolve complex issues.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of software QA or quality engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with Tricentis Tosca, Cucumber, Selenium, and Python for test automation.
• Experience testing mainframe and front-end applications and validating business application logic.
• Knowledge of Agile, DevOps, shift-left testing, CI/CD, Jira, Confluence, and qTest or an equivalent test management tool.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and communicate complex technical concepts to business partners.

Nice to have

• Insurance, finance, or accounting domain knowledge.
• Experience with SQL, MongoDB, DB2, IMS, Java, or C#.
• Knowledge of BDD and TDD testing frameworks.
• Experience with prompt engineering in generative AI chatbots or agentic AI for testing.
• Enhanced Reliability Clearance.
