Sr. Billing & Collection Specialist (Medical Billing)

Location: United States; listed location is New York, New York, with the role also identified as DJO Billerica. Typical office environment with up to 10% travel, including overnight out-of-town stays.

What you will do

• Prepare, edit, and submit account billing according to customer contracts and payer rules.
• Review outstanding claims, aged accounts receivable, denials, and self-pay accounts to identify collection actions.
• Follow up with insurers and patients, post denials, and ensure secondary bills and patient invoices are generated accurately and on time.
• Identify denial trends, workflow gaps, coding errors, and root causes, then coordinate corrective actions with cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate with offshore Cognizant partners on audits and denial processing.
• Serve as a subject-matter expert and resource for team members while supporting accurate and compliant revenue cycle operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience in medical billing and collections.
• Demonstrated experience leading teams and providing strong customer service.
• Healthcare experience and knowledge of billing, collections, insurance contracts, third-party billing, and private-client billing required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required; experience with Dataworks, Computers Unlimited TIMS, or similar billing software is preferred.
• Must already have full-time work authorization in the United States and be able to maintain it without employment visa sponsorship.
