Lab Waste Technician

Location: San Carlos, California, United States; onsite laboratory, storage, and loading dock work. Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00 AM–7:00 PM. Travel: up to 25%.

Salary: $22.84–$28.56 USD per hour.

What you will do

• Collect, segregate, label, transport, and manage chemical, biological, mixed, biohazardous, medical, and sharps waste.
• Monitor accumulation dates, container integrity, labeling, and compliance across laboratory and research spaces.
• Prepare hazardous waste shipments under DOT requirements, including packaging, marking, labeling, and off-site pickup coordination.
• Maintain waste manifests, records, inspections, and compliant accumulation areas with the EHS Supervisor.
• Coordinate with laboratory personnel and researchers to keep operations moving and resolve waste-management bottlenecks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; environmental science, biology, chemistry, or related coursework is preferred.
• 0–2 years of experience in a laboratory, warehouse, facilities, or environmental services role; EHS internship or volunteer experience is accepted.
• Ability to obtain RCRA hazardous waste training certification and DOT Hazmat Certification under 49 CFR within 90 days; training is provided.
• Ability to learn and apply RCRA hazardous waste regulations, DOT transportation requirements, laboratory safety, GHS/SDS, and biosafety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, communication, and independent task prioritization.
• Ability to lift and carry containers up to 50 lbs, push or pull carts, stand or walk for extended periods, and use required PPE.
