Lab Waste Technician (Biotech)

Location: Austin, TX, United States. Onsite work in laboratory, storage, and loading dock environments. Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00 AM–7:00 PM; travel up to 25%.

Salary: $20.77–$25.96 USD per hour.

What you will do

• Collect, segregate, label, package, and transport chemical, biological, and mixed laboratory waste.
• Monitor accumulation dates, container integrity, labeling, and regulatory compliance across laboratory and research spaces.
• Manage biohazardous waste, regulated medical waste, and sharps according to biosafety requirements.
• Prepare hazardous waste shipments for off-site pickup in accordance with DOT requirements.
• Maintain waste manifests, records, inspections, and compliant accumulation areas with the EHS Supervisor.
• Anticipate supply needs and resolve operational bottlenecks in a high-volume research setting.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 0–2 years of experience in laboratory, warehouse, facilities, or environmental services work; internship or volunteer EHS experience is accepted.
• Ability to obtain RCRA Hazardous Waste training certification within 90 days of hire; training is provided.
• Ability to obtain DOT Hazmat Certification under 49 CFR within 90 days of hire; training is provided.
• Ability to learn and apply RCRA and DOT requirements, laboratory safety practices, GHS/SDS, and biosafety procedures.
• Ability to lift and carry containers up to 50 lbs, push or pull carts, stand or walk for extended periods, and use required PPE.

Nice to have

• Associate’s degree or coursework in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
