TL;DR
Quality Control Inspector I/II (Aerospace): Performing production inspections of unmanned aircraft hardware across avionics and mechanical/structures environments with an accent on dimensional, visual, electrical, optical, and workmanship inspection. Focus on interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T, maintaining traceability, identifying nonconformances, and applying IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.

Location: San Luis Obispo, California; must be eligible to work in the United States

Salary: $22.59–$33.20 per hour USD, depending on level

What you will do

  • Perform visual, dimensional, functional, electrical, optical, and workmanship inspections of production hardware.
  • Conduct receiving, in-process, and final inspections within qualified avionics, electronics, and mechanical/structures environments.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, travelers, inspection instructions, and applicable acceptance criteria.
  • Document inspection results, product configuration, identification, and traceability in electronic quality records.
  • Identify, contain, and escalate suspected nonconformances and communicate inspection risks and production impacts.
  • Work with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Operations to support product conformity and manufacturing flow.

Requirements

  • Level I: high school diploma or equivalent and 0–2 years of relevant manufacturing, inspection, electronics, machining, assembly, or technical experience.
  • Level II: 1–4 years of manufacturing, aerospace, high-reliability, or related inspection experience.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications, travelers, inspection instructions, and work instructions.
  • Level II requires proficiency in engineering drawing interpretation and basic GD&T according to ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to use inspection equipment, accurately document results, maintain traceability, and recognize nonconforming conditions.
  • Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States through the required employment eligibility process.

Nice to have

  • Technical, vocational, or hands-on training in manufacturing, inspection, electronics, machining, composites, or mechanical assembly.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, medical, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, AS9102, ASQ quality certifications, ISO 9001 or AS9100 auditing, GD&T, or NDT.
