Senior Software Developer - Confluent Cloud Platform Control Plane

Location: Remote within Canada; cities listed include Calgary, Markham, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montreal. The role may require some travel based on business demand.

Salary: CAD 105,000–154,200 per year.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, and operate secure, reliable, and scalable backend services for the cloud platform control plane.
• Own features and projects end to end, including requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, rollout, and production improvements.
• Develop microservices and high-scale backend systems with strong performance, resilience, and API contracts.
• Support service reliability through monitoring, alerting, observability, incident response, and on-call participation where applicable.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and partner teams on architecture, data modeling, and platform integrations.
• Improve code quality, engineering practices, automation, and delivery workflows through testing, documentation, and code reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 3 years of professional experience designing, building, and supporting backend systems in production.
• Strong programming and algorithmic skills in Java, Go, Python, or another major programming language.
• Experience with microservices, data pipelines, event-driven architectures, or high-throughput APIs.
• Experience deploying and operating services on AWS, GCP, or Azure, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Must be able to work in Canada without sponsorship. Foreign nationals from specified US-sanctioned countries and Ukrainian regions on a work permit are not eligible for this position.

Nice to have

• Experience with L3 support engineering and resolving complex customer-reported issues.
• Experience with DevOps principles and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to frontend development technologies.
• Experience with relational databases, NoSQL stores, distributed data systems, testing strategies, metrics, logging, and tracing.
