Senior Software Developer/Architect - IBM Confluent Secure Compute

Location: Remote within Canada. Some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: CAD 137,000–186,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design and implement complex backend services and systems in a cloud-native, microservices-based environment.
• Make architecture and technical decisions balancing reliability, scalability, performance, and operability.
• Drive projects from requirements and design through implementation, rollout, and production operation.
• Define SLOs and SLAs, improve observability, and support incident response and on-call operations.
• Collaborate across teams on APIs, integration points, and data models.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical guidance.

Requirements

• Must be able to work in Canada without sponsorship.
• 7+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting backend systems in production.
• Strong Python runtime knowledge and proficiency in a major programming language such as Python, Go, C, C++, or Java.
• Experience with public cloud platforms including AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus containers and orchestration such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with distributed systems, observability, operational excellence, metrics, logging, tracing, incident response, and postmortems.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience; a master’s degree is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with language runtimes or virtual machines such as JVM or WASM.
• Expertise in container sandboxing technologies.
• Experience delivering large-scale, highly available, low-latency systems and handling critical on-call incidents.
