Staff Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Remote work is available for countries where Cash App operates; U.S. roles use market-based pay zones.

Salary: $263,600–$395,400 USD annually.

What you will do

• Provide deep technical expertise on global card networks, specifications, message flows, certification, mandates, and production behavior.
• Lead complex engineering problems at the boundary between card networks and the issuing platform.
• Build production systems, certification and conformance tooling, and shared engineering frameworks.
• Analyze network messages, review designs and code, and debug issues at the protocol and field level.
• Drive network certification and mandatory release cycles while partnering with technical leads and senior stakeholders.
• Support reliability through on-call participation, incident response, mentoring, documentation, and AI-assisted engineering practices.

Requirements

• Deep current expertise with at least one major card network, ideally Visa, including direct connectivity, ISO 8583, authorization, clearing, stand-in processing, certification, and mandate cycles.
• Experience building, certifying, or operating a live direct network connection rather than integrating only through a processor.
• Experience working directly with card networks to secure rulings, exceptions, extensions, configuration changes, defect fixes, or certification outcomes.
• Strong hands-on experience building and operating highly reliable financial or payments systems at scale.
• Experience leading technically complex cross-team work and creating frameworks, standards, tooling, architecture, or practices adopted by other teams.
• Working knowledge of Mastercard and American Express, AI-assisted engineering workflows, and willingness to join an on-call rotation.

Nice to have

• Deep expertise in Visa or another major card network.
• Broad card-lifecycle experience across issuance, fulfillment, provisioning, activation, authorization, ledgering, settlement, reconciliation, disputes, or fraud.
