Senior Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid role based in San Francisco, California, with an expectation of working from the office three days per week.

Salary: $200,000–$250,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Lead engineering best practices, mentor engineers, and deliver impactful solutions.
• Own well-defined problems from design through implementation and production.
• Build identity and access management capabilities, including authentication, authorization, RBAC, and OAuth/OIDC flows.
• Improve AWS and cloud infrastructure, security posture, configuration, operational guardrails, and database performance.
• Harden APIs, services, and distributed systems while contributing to incident response, remediation, and observability.
• Partner with the Security/CISO team to deliver durable fixes and build performant, customer-centric services and web applications.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience building precise, scalable distributed systems.
• Ability to independently own and deliver engineering work from definition through production.
• Backend-focused engineering experience with comfort working across the stack.
• Demonstrated experience building and shipping security, scalability, or infrastructure improvements.
• Technical aptitude for modern stacks including Java, Spring Boot, microservices, AWS, Postgres, Kubernetes, React, TypeScript, and GraphQL.
• Strong communication, ownership, resilience, and creative problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with fintech, payments, or highly regulated and security-sensitive environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
