Staff Software Engineer, Finance Technology (Remote)

Location: Boston, MA, with remote-hybrid work from the Boston office, home, or a mixture of both

Salary: $184,000–$232,000 annual total target cash compensation, including base salary and bonus target

What you will do

• Own the architecture of the Finance Technology platform covering pay-ins, payouts, invoicing, and tax calculation.
• Define versioned APIs, service contracts, engineering standards, and operational quality metrics.
• Lead multi-quarter, multi-team initiatives from problem definition and system design through hands-on delivery.
• Evaluate payment service providers and build integrations involving card processing, settlements, refunds, disbursements, and taxes.
• Partner with Platform Engineering on Temporal, observability, secrets management, CI/CD, and shared services.
• Provide architectural guidance, design and code reviews, mentorship, and production incident leadership.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building backend services and 4+ years of experience with Go.
• Experience leading multi-quarter, multi-team technical initiatives and influencing without authority.
• Deep experience with payment processing, payout systems, invoicing, refunds, disbursements, and tax in high-volume products.
• Hands-on experience with payment service providers or gateways such as Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, and card networks; knowledge of settlement, chargebacks, PCI, and SCA.
• Experience building secure, reliable, high-integrity distributed systems, with strong API and service-boundary design skills.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, safe rollouts, AI development tools, workflow orchestration such as Temporal, card issuance, or ledgering.
