TL;DR
Field Automation Technician (SCADA): Installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining SCADA equipment and remote terminal units for the electric distribution grid with an accent on electrical systems, communications hardware, instrumentation, and critical infrastructure protection. Focus on repairing and configuring RTUs and intelligent electronic devices, analyzing communications failures, maintaining CIP certification, and responding to on-call and storm assignments.

Location: Berlin, Connecticut, United States; field-based work with on-call and storm assignments.

Salary: Starting at $37.39 per hour, progressing according to the union contract.

Provides energy delivery services to customers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

What you will do

  • Install, program, commission, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair SCADA hardware and systems.
  • Service remote terminal units, data concentrators, HMIs, communication systems, servers, sensors, meters, and related electronic devices.
  • Create and update configuration files, drawings, and records for circuit breakers, reclosers, line sensors, smart switches, feeder metering, and other intelligent electronic devices.
  • Use electrical and electronic test instruments to diagnose and calibrate equipment.
  • Analyze communication failures, coordinate issue resolution with carriers or internal personnel, and return equipment to service.
  • Obtain required operational clearances and support emergency, on-call, and storm assignments.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in electrical engineering, electrical technology, or an equivalent qualification.
  • 0–3+ years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic components, circuitry, systems, operating systems, and testing techniques.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, wiring, logic, and interconnection diagrams.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Critical Infrastructure Protection certification must be maintained annually.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of CONVEX switching and tagging procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Eversource safety rules and practices.
