Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace/NPI): Leading the development of new manufacturing processes and mechanical designs for electric aircraft from concept through low-rate initial production with an accent on advanced manufacturing, design for manufacturing, and production scalability. Focus on fabricating and testing prototypes, selecting process equipment, reducing costs, and certifying new technologies for high-rate production.

Location: South Burlington, Vermont, United States; onsite role

Salary: $125,000–$150,000 USD annually

What you will do

  • Lead new manufacturing process development from conceptualization through low-rate initial production.
  • Lead mechanical design for development projects through technology readiness level 7.
  • Fabricate proof-of-concept prototypes, test equipment, and fixtures for iterative test campaigns.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, supply chain, systems, and certification teams on materials, processes, make-versus-buy strategies, and technology certifiability.
  • Design or select manufacturing process equipment and support production teams after technology ownership transitions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or another engineering field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or high-rate production.
  • Strong new product introduction experience, including production scaling, product integration, and cost reduction.
  • Knowledge of automation and advanced production technologies, such as composites, molding, metal additive manufacturing, forging, casting, welding, coating, or electroplating.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and metrology tools for precision manufacturing.
  • Data-driven decision-making skills and the ability to remain persistent through repeated project failures.
