TL;DR
Associate Automation Engineer (PE I) (Power Systems/Microgrids): Designing, developing, testing, and commissioning POWERMAX power management and microgrid control systems with an accent on RTAC programming, HMI development, system integration, and power system automation. Focus on configuring protection and control systems, performing factory acceptance testing, supporting on-site commissioning, and integrating industrial protocols including IEC 61850, DNP, and Modbus.

Location: Pullman, Washington, United States; 100% on-site. The role requires at least 25% domestic and international travel.

Salary: $84,200–$124,500 per year.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, test, integrate, and commission POWERMAX power management and microgrid control systems.
  • Program RTAC systems and develop HMIs for customized electrical system solutions.
  • Configure, validate, install, commission, and support automation and protection systems.
  • Prepare functional design specifications, design documents, reports, checklists, test reports, and project deliverables.
  • Conduct factory acceptance testing and provide on-site commissioning support.
  • Train and assist customers while coordinating with project managers and engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience with electric power systems, automation practices, and industry applications.
  • Knowledge of power system protection and control, integration, automation, communications, protective relays, and system design.
  • Working knowledge of software integration, industrial controls, PLCs, SCADA practices, Ethernet systems, and industry protocols including IEC 61850, DNP, and Modbus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally at least 25% of the time and work 100% on-site in Pullman, Washington.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills, along with the ability to learn new skills and work cooperatively in a team environment. A satisfactory background check and negative drug test are required.

Nice to have

  • Engineer in Training certificate.
  • Experience in electrical utilities, industrial plants, consulting engineering, or system integration.
  • Project engineering experience.
  • Experience with Vision or other project management tracking software.
