TL;DR
Automation Controls Technician (PLC): Troubleshooting, programming, integrating, and upgrading PLC-based control systems, DCS, instrumentation, VFDs, and web tension controls in a manufacturing plant with an accent on process automation, equipment reliability, and production uptime. Focus on diagnosing complex electrical and controls issues, optimizing systems, and implementing corrective actions across operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, USA; onsite night shift

What you will do

  • Troubleshoot, program, integrate, install, modify, and upgrade PLC-based control systems using Rockwell, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Parker, GE, and SCR platforms.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot DCS, HMI/MMI, process automation, monitoring, and equipment performance systems.
  • Configure, commission, and troubleshoot VFDs, motor control systems, instrumentation, and web tension control systems.
  • Support controls projects, system optimization, root cause analysis, corrective actions, plant reliability, and production uptime.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, electricians, contractors, and management to resolve safety, quality, and productivity issues.
  • Maintain documentation for control systems, programming changes, equipment configurations, and troubleshooting activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree in electrical technology, automation, instrumentation, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience with automation and process controls in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, troubleshooting, and system integration, with strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, control panels, and electrical circuits.
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work a rotating 3/4 night schedule with 12-hour shifts: three nights one week and four nights the next.
  • Must be a U.S. Person: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, qualifying temporary resident, refugee, or person granted asylum.

Nice to have

  • Experience creating or modifying electrical and control system drawings with AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking, Ethernet communications, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, or Historian systems.
  • Experience with VFD setup, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
