Industrial Controls Engineer

Location: United States; onsite manufacturing-site support with 10–20% travel

What you will do

• Design PLC, HMI, SCADA, networked control systems, electrical schematics, panel layouts, and control system architectures.
• Program PLCs, configure HMIs, and integrate controls with mechanical, electrical, robotic, and process equipment.
• Support panel builds, sensor installation, wiring, equipment startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization at manufacturing sites.
• Evaluate automation opportunities, including technical feasibility, project risk, implementation effort, and long-term support requirements.
• Maintain accurate wiring diagrams, logic descriptions, panel layouts, cabinet documentation, and user guides.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, operators, technicians, and leadership while providing technical guidance and hands-on training.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Controls Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent hands-on controls experience may be considered.
• 5+ years of experience in industrial controls and automation.
• Proficiency in PLC programming, including Allen-Bradley, Automation Direct Productivity/Click, Siemens, or Mitsubishi platforms.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA systems such as C-more, FactoryTalk, WinCC, or Ignition.
• Understanding of Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and Profibus, plus familiarity with SolidWorks Electrical Schematic, DraftSight, or EPLAN.
• Knowledge of Cat. 1–4, NFPA 70E, UL508A, and ISO 13849 safety standards, along with strong problem-solving and communication skills.

• Experience with robotics and motion control systems.
• Knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologies and IIoT integration.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Experience reading, creating, and interpreting electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and control system documentation.
