TL;DR
Electrical Systems & Harness Design Engineer (Robotics): Developing electrical distribution systems, schematics, and wire harnesses for robotic food-production systems with an accent on manufacturable designs, configuration-controlled documentation, and system integration. Focus on migrating designs into an enterprise E-CAD platform, validating electrical interconnects, and solving complex packaging, grounding, shielding, testing, and production-release challenges.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA; onsite five days a week

Salary: $90,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential equity awards and an annual performance-based bonus.

Company

hirify.global develops and deploys robotic systems for direct-to-customer food production.

What you will do

  • Lead the migration of existing electrical system designs into a database-driven enterprise E-CAD platform, including components, libraries, templates, connectivity rules, drawings, and automated outputs.
  • Develop and release system schematics, interconnect definitions, wire harnesses, pinouts, wire lists, BOMs, and manufacturing and installation drawings.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, PCBA, firmware, software, field service, and manufacturing teams on component selection, routing, packaging, grounding, shielding, strain relief, and serviceability.
  • Support prototype builds, system integration, validation, continuity and insulation-resistance testing, voltage-drop and communication testing, and electrical issue resolution.
  • Work with harness suppliers and production teams on DFM/DFA, first-article builds, workmanship, inspections, substitutions, quality issues, engineering changes, and production transition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and releasing electrical distribution or wire-harness systems for robotics, automotive, aerospace, industrial automation, or similarly complex electromechanical products.
  • Experience with a database-driven electrical design or harness-engineering platform, custom components, libraries, drawings, BOMs, configuration control, and engineering-change processes.
  • Experience producing complete harness documentation packages, including schematics, harness drawings, connector definitions, pinouts, wire lists, BOMs, and assembly or installation documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of wire, cable, connector, and circuit-protection selection; current capacity, voltage drop, grounding, shielding, thermal derating, EMI/EMC, circuit separation, and UL/NEC requirements.
  • Hands-on experience building, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems, with clear communication across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and technicians.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Zuken E3.series, including electrical-system migration, custom-device creation, library administration, automated reporting, or new-environment deployment.
  • Harness-design experience for moving or harsh-environment equipment, including high-flex routing, vibration, sealed connectors, washdown, chemical exposure, abrasion protection, and repeated service access.
  • Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620, crimping, depinning, pull-force testing, continuity testing, inspection, and rework.
  • Experience with CAN/CAN FD, Ethernet, USB, RS-485, motor and encoder connections, and sensor or camera interfaces.
  • Familiarity with PLM and ECO workflows, DFMEA, fault analysis, and electrical-safety or regulatory requirements.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative environment with support and guidance from experienced colleagues and managers.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, including HSA options.
  • Company-paid life and disability insurance, plus voluntary supplemental coverage.
  • 401(k), HSA, flexible spending accounts, pet insurance discount, and paid time off.
  • Discretionary vacation days, eight paid holidays, paid sick time, bereavement leave, and paid parental leave.
