Mechanical Engineering - Design (Robotics)

Location: On-site at the Brooklyn Navy Yard lab, Brooklyn, New York; not remote-eligible

Salary: $140,000–$185,000 per year, USD

What you will do

• Design and build robotic and autonomous systems for laboratory automation and material handling.
• Define mechanical requirements and execute 2D and 3D design using complex CAD assemblies.
• Rapidly prototype mechanisms and coordinate with vendors on fabrication and system integration.
• Validate and install hardware, leading projects from concept through completion.
• Solve challenges involving precision motion control and automated laboratory equipment.

Requirements

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 3–5 years of industry experience designing parts, mechanisms, and large assemblies.
• Expert proficiency in SOLIDWORKS.
• Expertise in design for manufacturing and rapid prototyping, including CNC, sheet metal, and 3D printing.
• Experience delivering novel mechanism and machine designs, with strong hands-on fabrication and assembly skills.

Nice to have

• Exposure to material handling systems such as AMRs, ASRS, or conveyance.
• Experience using or managing SOLIDWORKS PDM systems.
• Experience with automation workcells using 6DOF arms.
• Familiarity with laboratory tools or lab-based development.
