TL;DR
Thermal Analysis Team Lead (Nuclear): Leading thermodynamic system analysis and mechanical engineering work for advanced reactor plants with an accent on thermal-hydraulic modeling, plant-level steady-state and transient analysis, and design requirements. Focus on directing multidisciplinary engineering teams, evaluating primary and secondary systems, and delivering documented analysis work products on schedule and within budget.

Location: Rockville, Maryland, United States; 4 days in office. Standard schedule is 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday. Travel up to 10% as needed.

Salary: $140,000–$180,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Lead thermodynamic system analysis supporting the design, manufacturing, construction, and licensing strategy of advanced reactor plants.
  • Direct individual contributors and coordinate engineering resources across multiple projects.
  • Lead design-cycle sprints and align engineers, partners, and suppliers on high-quality deliverables, schedules, and budgets.
  • Plan and perform analyses of systems, structures, and components to verify technical specifications and intended functions.
  • Perform structural, thermal, hydraulic, heat-balance, and mass-balance calculations using analytical tools and 1D flow solvers.
  • Support design control, documentation, internal and external design reviews, and configuration management within multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Typically seven years of engineering experience; graduate degrees typically count as more than two years of experience.
  • Experience using 1D flow solvers for heat/energy and mass-balance analysis, such as RELAP, Flownex, NPSS, SINDA/FLUINT, ASPEN Plus, or Flomaster.
  • Strong understanding of single- and two-phase flow fluid mechanics, heat-transfer phenomena, and plant dynamics.
  • Ability to work from the Rockville, Maryland office four days per week during Eastern Time office hours.

Nice to have

  • Five or more years of dedicated thermal-hydraulic or thermodynamic systems analysis experience in the nuclear industry.
  • Supervisory experience, including performance reviews, career development, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience overseeing plant-level steady-state and transient analysis for primary and secondary systems and off-normal accident scenarios.
